SELECTION FOR DIRECT ADMISSION TO THE PhD COURSE
There is no direct admission to the PhD Course.
Foreign Applicants
For the Selection Process, foreign students submit to the same criteria as Brazilian students and are under the same selection notices, save students who enroll through exchange programs recognized by USP. In addition to the enrollment procedures, the selected foreign candidate must also present a Portuguese Proficiency Exam in accordance to the Program Selection and Regulation Notice.
There are Programs at USP and CAPES designed for the reception of foreign students, which the Program recognizes, according to the following criteria:
Foreign candidates are submitted to the same calendar and the same criteria as Brazilian students, except for those who come by pre-established agreements, such as PEC-PG. In these cases, the applicants first plead a letter of acceptance of the Program.
To obtain an Acceptance Letter
It is common for foreign applicants to apply for a "Acceptance Lettre" to the Program for enrollment by the various mobility programs provided by CAPES and other institutions. However, to grant an acceptance letter, the Program has the following procedure:
1. The candidate should seek one of the accredited advisors in the Program and, together with the Program, request an advisory intention;
2. If the requested advisor agrees to advise this candidate, he or she shall forward a letter stating his or her intentions to the CCP to provide guidance and a detailed opinion on the candidate's project. (He or she must attach the candidate registration documentation in 1 of the mobility programs);
The CCP, in turn, will analyze the documentation and, based on its opinion, approve or not approve the acceptance of the candidate. If approved, the PGC will then issue an acceptance letter to the foreign candidate.
